Hearst Castle getting 'shot' in high definition
Hourlong program will air here in June, but in plain wrap
Hearst Castle
San Simeon, CA May 3, 2007 — Hearst Castle has gone high-definition, courtesy of a WealthTV film crew that concludes a three-day filming schedule today.
The 60-minute show about media magnate William Randolph Hearst and “an insider’s view of the Castle” is expected to air locally in mid-June on Charter cable channel 137, according to Laura Kunsman, WealthTV’s location manager.
The special will focus primarily on what tour takers see, Kunsman said.
Filming has gone quickly, said Castle spokesman Dan Filer. High-definition is very light sensitive, he said, so crews don’t need to “set up all the big lighting needed for other systems. That means there’s less impact on our tour takers.”
It’s the first time high-definition cameras have been used to record footage for a full-length documentary at the Castle, Eller said.
However, local residents won’t be able to experience the full impact of the finished product. Charter doesn’t broadcast WealthTV in high definition, according to spokeswoman Christie Balzar.
Receiving high-definition signals requires special equipment, including the TV set.
WealthTV’s Web site, www.wealthtv.net, says the network is devoted to “taking viewers on a journey of how wealth is achieved, used and enjoyed.”
